What you need

• An iPhone running iOS 26 or later.
• Permission to use the microphone and speech, so aloud can hear you.
• For the best writing, a device with Apple Intelligence. On other devices aloud still works with a simpler built-in writer.

Common questions

How does aloud work?

You hold the button and talk for about twenty seconds. Your iPhone turns your voice into text right on the device, then shortens it into a few handwritten lines and a mood, filed in your private notebook.

Is my diary really private?

Yes. Your entries live on your phone, not on our servers. There are no accounts, and we never read your journal. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

Do I need the internet?

No. The recording and the writing happen on your device, so aloud works offline.

What does it cost?

Aloud is free at launch, with no subscription and no account to make.

Can I get my entries back if I delete the app?

Deleting the app removes its data from your phone. If your iPhone backs up to iCloud, your data may return when you reinstall and restore that backup. We cannot recover entries for you, because we never have them.

The microphone will not work

Open Settings → aloud on your iPhone and make sure Microphone and Speech Recognition are turned on. If you tapped “Don’t Allow” earlier, this is where you switch it back.

Do you have my data or can you read my diary?

No. We have no way to see your entries. They are yours, on your device.
