Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
The short version. Aloud is a private diary. Your voice becomes text right on your iPhone, and your entries live on your device. There are no accounts to make. We do not run servers that read your diary, we do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other apps.
This policy explains what aloud (“the app”, “we”, “us”) does with your information. Aloud is made and operated by Farhan Hossain. If anything here is unclear, email contact@farhanhossain.com.
1. Who this applies to
This policy covers the aloud app for iPhone and this website, aloudjournal.com.
2. Information we collect
Personal information we collect on our own servers: none. Aloud has no login, no user accounts, and no backend that stores your journal. We cannot see your entries.
The app creates and stores the following on your device so it can work:
- Your entries. Your handwritten lines, the date, and the mood for each day you keep.
- Your voice, only for a moment. When you record, audio is used on the device to create the text, and is not saved as part of your diary or sent anywhere.
- Your settings. Small preferences like your reminder time and whether the app lock is on.
This data stays in the app’s private storage on your iPhone. Deleting the app removes it.
3. Microphone and speech
Aloud asks for the microphone and speech recognition so it can turn what you say into words. The recording is processed on your device using Apple’s on-device speech and text features. Your audio is not uploaded to us or to anyone else. You can turn these permissions off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security, though the app needs them to record.
4. How the lines are written
The short lines are produced on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device intelligence. Your words are not sent to a cloud service to be summarized. Aloud does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software.
5. iCloud
If you have iCloud turned on for your iPhone, your device may include aloud’s data in your own private iCloud backup, the same way it backs up your other apps. That backup belongs to your Apple account and is handled by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We have no access to it. Aloud does not have its own separate cloud account for your diary.
6. Purchases
Aloud is free at launch and does not sell anything inside the app. If we add a paid feature later, any purchase would be handled entirely by Apple through the App Store, and we would never see your card number or billing details. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for how Apple handles payments.
7. This website
This site is a simple set of static pages. It does not use advertising or tracking cookies and does not ask you to sign in. Our hosting provider may keep basic, non-identifying server logs (such as the type of request and a truncated address) to keep the site running and secure. If you email us, we keep your message so we can reply.
8. What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your information.
- We do not build a profile of you or track you across apps or websites.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not read your journal.
9. Children
Aloud is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information to us, email us and we will help.
10. Your choices and rights
Because your diary lives on your device, you are in control of it. You can edit or delete any entry in the app, and deleting the app removes its data from your phone. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA to access or delete personal data. Since we do not hold your entries, most of this is already in your hands; for anything you send us by email, contact us and we will honor your request.
11. Security
Your entries are stored in the app’s protected storage on your iPhone and are covered by your device’s own security, such as your passcode and encryption. Aloud also offers an optional in-app lock. No method of storage is perfect, but because your diary does not travel to our servers, there is very little for anyone else to reach.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and post the new version here. Meaningful changes will be noted in the app or on this page.
